Hoteliers in Plovdiv are interested in new airlines to the city
We held a fruitful working meeting with the director of Plovdiv Airport (Plovdiv) Mr. Angelov and his team, in which we discussed the needs, conditions and mechanism by which the city of Plovdiv as a tourist destination and positioning can contribute to the opening of new airlines. Plovdiv Airport is committed to integrating business in the process in the form of the Plovdiv hotels union as a directly interested party in making the city of Plovdiv accessible by air from as many points in the world as possible. It takes a lot of work, professional competence and transparency in the whole process. We stated that we are here to help make that happen by speeding up the process. We continue to pursue our goals and work transparently in the name of quality tourist service and the development of the city of Plovdiv as a world destination.

The management of Plovdiv Airport met with the Plovdiv hotels union
The Executive Director of Plovdiv Airport and his team held a meeting with the Management Board of the Plovdiv hotels union. Together they discussed the possibilities of opening new airlines to Plovdiv and the ways to attract tourists to spend the night in the city.
The representatives of the hoteliers were introduced to the work of the Plovdiv Airport Development Fund, which is negotiating with airlines for the opening of regular airlines to Plovdiv. It was explained that the airlines are looking for cash incentives in the form of a marketing agreement to ensure the development of a new airline. In turn, fund members use the opportunities of airlines to promote their product or attract tourists to their territory.
“Plovdiv Airport and the Plovdiv hotels union are obviously two active parties and we quickly found a way to each other. The field for cooperation is huge,” said the executive director of the airport, Doychin Angelov, after the meeting.
The chairman of the Plovdiv hotels union Petar Denchev and Mariela Balcheva, who is a member of the Management Board, emphasized the need for easy access for tourists to the city and the provision of a quality tourist product.
They undertook to inform the members of the Plovdiv hotels union about the possibilities for membership in the Plovdiv Airport Development Fund and the ways to open new airlines to the city.
Currently, nine municipalities are members of the Fund – Plovdiv, Chepelare, Rodopi, Sopot, Kaloyanovo, Kuklen, Hisarya, Saedinenie and three legal entities, private companies – Pamporovo JSC, Grand Hotel Plovdiv, SNC Fund Fenix.
The membership fees of the municipalities of Kaloyanovo, Sopot, Kuklen and Hisarya are planned and will be voted in the budget, after they have already done so in Plovdiv, Sadovo and Saedinenie.
Contributions to the Fund are equal to one BGN per resident per year. The sums are used to provide incentives for airlines to open new routes.
The number of flights for the last one year has been significantly increased, as the Plovdiv Airport Development Fund is currently negotiating the opening of new routes to cities in Germany and attractive destinations to Italy, Spain, France, Austria and Great Britain. We are also working towards support from the Bulgarian communities outside the country, and very soon meetings will be held with Bulgarians abroad, to find opportunities for opening airlines to their cities.
